This compares your child\u2019s measurements with other children of the same age and sex.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"731\" data-end=\"860\">For example, if a child is on the 75th centile, it means their BMI is higher than 75 out of 100 children of the same age and sex.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"892\">Understanding the centiles<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1086\">\n<li data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"936\">\n<p data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"936\"><strong data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"911\">Underweight<\/strong> \u2013 2nd centile or below<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"995\">\n<p data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"995\"><strong data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"957\">Healthy weight<\/strong> \u2013 Between the 2nd and 91st centiles<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"996\" data-end=\"1038\">\n<p data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1038\"><strong data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1012\">Overweight<\/strong> \u2013 91st centile or above<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1039\" data-end=\"1086\">\n<p data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1086\"><strong data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1060\">Very overweight<\/strong> \u2013 98th centile or above<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1219\"><strong>Remember, centiles are just a guide. Children grow at different rates, and one measurement on its own doesn\u2019t tell the whole story.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1221\" data-end=\"1253\">Checking your child\u2019s growth<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1255\" data-end=\"1498\">It\u2019s recommended that you measure your child\u2019s height and weight every three months and use a healthy weight calculator to see how they are growing over time. Measuring regularly helps you spot patterns rather than focusing on a single result.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1698\"><strong>If you have any concerns, you can discuss your child\u2019s growth with your GP, school nurse or other health professional.
