Yes. Stop smoking medications are carefully tested and safe. Cigarettes contain thousands of harmful chemicals – stop smoking medications are designed to give you support to stop without the harmful smoke.
Will I always need them?
It is very unlikely. Stop smoking medications are used for a short time to help your brain adjust to life without smoking.

There are three main medications for stopping smoking which are in tablet form.

Varenicline and Cytisine are now offered as part of a limited trial until November 2026 using a select number of pharmacies. These pharmacies will undertake a consultation and prescribe these medications.
The medication will be offered for FREE for clients registered with Feel Good Suffolk and who are suitable for the medication, have high motivation and have tried other ways to stop smoking.

Bupropion
Sometimes called Zyban, it works by changing chemicals in your brain to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
Vareniklinas
Formerly available as Champix, helps you quit by blocking nicotine’s effects in your brain.
Citizinas
It works by blocking nicotine’s effects in your brain.
